iPhone Apps for the Blind and Visually Impaired.

There are a couple of apps for the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad that are made for visually impaired users.  One is iBlink.  iBlink is a radio that provides podcasts and news of special interest for people who are blind or visually impaired, or for people who have an interest in learning more about what it means to have little or no vision.

This app is run by SAMNet, an online community and division of Serotek, which is the company that provides System Access.  System Access is a free screen reader that can be accessed in the web browser and can be used as an alternative to JAWS.  Learn more about iBlink in this article on iBlink.

Another app, called Shake & Dial.  Basically, you pick a list of contacts, and shake your phone to dial their number.  So, if you want to call contact number 3, then you shake your phone 3 times.  I’d be very interested to see what the thoughts on this one are from people who have used it.  I don’t have an iPhone yet.  I’m still debating on whether to go with the Droid or iPhone when my contract runs out in April.

Shake & Dial is $2.99 and iBlink is free.  So, not too bad price wise.  Any other good apps for the visually impaired out there? And speaking of the Droid, anything good apps for the Droid that I should check out?
